Muitos de vocês não sabem, mas uma das minhas séries literárias preferidas de sempre é a que compõe os livros de Maze Runner. Ontem, por volta da meia-noite, acabei de ler o último capítulo do terceiro de cinco livros e já desde o primeiro dia deste mês que tinha planeado fazer este post, embora não soubesse ao certo quando iria acontecer.
Mas agora, vocês podem perguntar-se "Porquê agora no terceiro? Porque não lês os cinco livros e depois fazes o post?"
A explicação é simples:
Apenas os três primeiros livros foram adaptados para cinema e, como tal, vou deixar os últimos dois livros para mais tarde.
Mas vamos contextualizar-vos primeiro.
Conheci estes livros quando vi o segundo filme na televisão, há cerca de 3 anos. Adorei o filme e, por isso, decidi ir ver o primeiro, já que o terceiro ainda iria ser lançado. Fiquei fã, mas não encontrava os livros na Fnac.
Foi então que, a 23 de novembro de 2018, quando estava com umas amigas na Fnac, em plena Black Friday, vi a coleção toda à venda. Na etiqueta dizia 15€, então pensei em falar com o meu pai e passar lá no dia seguinte para comprar, já que estava em tão bom preço. Ora, se 15€, por 5 livros (em inglês) já era um bom negócio, imaginem quando fomos pagar e apenas gastamos 12€ com todas as promoções. O negócio mais épico da minha vida tinha acontecido e podia finalmente ler os livros todos.
Nessa altura, o terceiro filme já tinha sido lançado nos cinemas e eu já o tinha visto, pelo que, visto os três filmes, já só faltava ler os três primeiros livros!
E foi então que comecei a ler, mas não de uma forma qualquer. Se repararem, eu comprei os livros em 2018, quando ainda estava no primeiro ano da Universidade, foi nesse ano (2018/2019) que li o primeiro livro. Em 2019/2020, li o segundo e, agora, em 2020/2021, li o terceiro. Por quê? Vou tentar não vos dar spoilers, fiquem atentos:
1. Maze Runner: Livro, filme e a realidade
De todos os 3 filmes, o 1º é o que é mais semelhante ao livro. A história e o objetivo são o mesmo: sair do labirinto. Mas... há algo que ainda hoje me intriga.
A história baseia-se num grupo de adolescentes que estão num labirinto (pois estão a ser testados) e têm que sair de lá.
De x em x tempo, uma caixa metálica deixa mantimentos e um novo elemento para habitar na Clareira e é assim que Thomas chega lá.
Thomas é o "novato", o "greenie", ou noutras palavras: o Caloiro. Nos primeiros tempos, ele está desnorteado, não sabe o que fazer ou como se integrar no grupo.
E no ano em que eu li o primeiro livro, eu estava no primeiro ano da licenciatura. Era Caloira, desnorteada e sem saber como me integrar no curso.
2. Maze Runner: Scorch Trials - Livro, filme e a realidade
Aqui as coisas começam a ficar feias... mais ou menos! Metade do filme é semelhando ao livro, a outra metade... Bem, é aí que alteram a história... Literalmente alteram a história!
Mesmo assim, o objetivo é o mesmo tanto no filme como no livro: ultrapassar os Scorch Trials, mas o livro não está todo adaptado ao cinema, metade dele a história é nova, não é a hisstória que foi escrita, é outra completamente diferente.
Mas em que é que isto tem a ver com a realidade?
Neste livro (e mesmo no filme), eles descobrem que há uma doença, provocada por um vírus, que está a afetar o mundo inteiro. Surpresa das surpresas, em 2020, ainda estava eu no segundo ano da licenciatura, quando foi tudo fechado por causa de uma doença provocada por um vírus.
Ou eu estou doida, ou então, uma das seguintes hipóteses é a verdade: o James Dashner (autor dos livros) previu o que ia acontecer, ou então... os livros são uma metáfora da vida que tenho andado a viver.
3. Maze Runner: The Death Cure - Livro, filme e a realidade
Como a segunda metade do segundo filme é completamente diferente da segunda metade do segundo livro, claramente que o terceiro livro e o terceiro filme são completamente diferentes um do outro.
Enquanto que o objetivo do livro é eles vingarem-se da WICKED (a organização que os anda a testar), o objetivo do terceiro filme é salvar uma das personagens. Se vocês acham que isto é adaptar um livro ao cinema, meus caros, eu não acho! Mas se o autor autorizou todas as alterações, não sou eu que vou julgar. É importante notar que, embora a história seja diferente num e no outro, ambos são incríveis!
Mas comparando isto com a minha vida agora no terceiro ano da licenciatura. Bem... Não há muito a dizer... o título "The Death Cure" fala por si só. Já há vacina para a pandemia! Se é um paralelo entre ficção científica e a realidade? Sim, podem crer que sim!
E é isto! Esta é a comparação entre a série literária que mais adoro, com as suas adaptações aos filmes e a realidade!

Many of you don't know, but one of my favorite literary series ever is the one that makes up Maze Runner's books. Yesterday, around midnight, I finished reading the last chapter of the third of five books and since the first day of this month I had planned to make this post, although I was not sure when it would happen.
But now, you can ask yourself "Why now on the third? Why don't you read the five books and then do the post?"
The explanation is simple:
Only the first three books were adapted for cinema and, as such, I will leave the last two books for later.
But let's contextualize you first.
I came across these books when I saw the second movie on television, about 3 years ago. I loved the movie and, therefore, I decided to go see the first one, since the third was yet to be released. I was a fan, but I couldn't find the books at Fnac.
It was then that, on November 23, 2018, when I was with some friends at Fnac, in the middle of Black Friday, I saw the entire collection for sale. The label said 15€, so I thought about talking to my father and go there the next day to buy the books, since it was so cheap. Now, if 15€, for 5 books (in English) was already a good deal, imagine when we went to pay and just spent 12€ with all the promotions together. The most epic business of my life had happened and I could finally read all the books.
At that time, the third movie had already been released in theaters and I had already seen it, so, having seen the three movies, I only needed to read the first three books!
And that's when I started to read, but not in any way. If you notice, I bought the books in 2018, when I was still in the first year of the University, it was in that year (2018/2019) that I read the first book. In 2019/2020, I read the second, and now, in 2020/2021, I read the third. Why? I'll try not to give you spoilers, stay tuned:

Of all 3 movies, the 1st is the most similar to the book. The story and the goal are the same: to get out of the maze. But... there is something that still intrigues me today.
The story is based on a group of teenagers who are in a maze (as they are being tested) and have to get out of there.
Every once in a while, a metal box leaves supplies and a new element to live in the Glade and that's how Thomas gets there.
Thomas is the "newbie", the "greenie", in other words: the Freshman. In the early days, he is bewildered, he doesn't know what to do or how to integrate into the group.
And in the year that I read the first book, I was in the first year of my degree. It was a greenie too, bewildered and not knowing how to get integrated the course.
2. Maze Runner: Scorch Trials - Book, movie and reality
Here things start to get ugly... sort of! Half the movie is similar to the book, the other half... Well, that's where the story changes... Literally they change the story!
Even so, the objective is the same both in the movie and in the book: to surpass the Scorch Trials, but the book is not entirely adapted to the cinema, half of it has a new story, it isn't the story that was written, it is another.
But what does this have to do with reality?
In this book (and even in the movie), they discover that there is a disease, caused by a virus, that is affecting the entire world. Surprise of the surprises, in 2020, I was still in the second year of my degree, when everything was closed because of a disease caused by a virus.
Either I'm crazy, or both, James Dashner (author of the books) predicted what was going to happen, or else... the books are a metaphor for the life I've been living.
3. Maze Runner: The Death Cure - Book, movie and reality
Since the second half of the second movie is completely different from the second half of the second book, it is clear that the third book and the third movie are completely different from each other.
While the objective of the book is for them to take revenge on WICKED (the organization that is testing them), the objective of the third movie is to save one of the characters. If you think this is adapting a book to the cinema, guys, I don't think so! But if the author has authorized all changes, I am not the one to judge. It is important to note that, although the story is different in each other, both are incredible!
But comparing this to my life now in the third year of my degree. Well... there's not much to say... the title "The Death Cure" speaks for itself. There is already a vaccine for the pandemic! Is it a parallel between science fiction and reality? Yes, believe me!
And this is it! This is the comparison between the literary series I love the most, with its adaptations to movies and reality!
